About Soca Music

Soca originated in the Caribbean, Specifically, Trinidad and Tobago, in the post‑slavery era, as newly embraced freedoms inspired cultural expression and musical innovation. The modern form of Soca emerged through a dynamic fusion of African musical traditions and East Indian instrumental rhythms, creating the uplifting, rhythmic sound recognised globally today. The late Garfield Blackman aka Lord Ras Shorty aka Ras Shorty I is credited with the fusion, calling it SOKAH/SOCA the SOUL OF CALYPSO Credited with JAMOO RAPSO genre which has continued with his children, Sheldon, Marge, Isaac Blackman, and his Granddaughters, Nailah, Rane, Trini Baby. 

Soca encompasses a wide range of stylistic influences, including Groovy, Power, Chutney, Dancehall, Afrobeats, Zouk, Zess, Trinibad, and more. Celebrated as the joyful heartbeat of Carnival, Soca continues to unite communities and energise audiences around the world.
